देश के दूरसंचार क्षेत्र में शुक्रवार का दिन भारी उथल पुथल वाला रहा। रिलायंस इंडस्ट्रीज के चेयरमैन मुकेश अम्बानी ने समूह की 40वी वार्षिक आम महासभा में पहला ‘इंटेलीजेंट’ 4G फीचर फ़ोन लांच करने की घोषणा की। वह भी एक तरह से मुफ्त। यही वजह रही है की इस घोषणा के तुरंत बाद दूसरी सभी टेलीकॉम कंपनियों के शेयर में गिर गए। ख़ास बात यह है की इस इंटेलीजेंट 4G फ़ोन के लिए बतौर मनी 1500 रुपए देने होंगे। 3 साल बाद फ़ोन वापस करने पर यह पैसा वापस भी लिया जा सकता है। इसमें लाइफ टाइम फ्री कॉलिंग मिलेगी। वहीं 153 रुपए माह में अनलिमिटेड 4g डाटा इस्तेमाल कर सकेंगे। ट्राई की तजा रिपोर्ट के अनुसार देश में 120.5 करोड़ टेलिकॉम उपभोक्ता है। इनमे से 110.8 करोड़ मोबाइल कनेक्शन है। लेकिन इनमे मात्र 28 करोड़ स्मार्ट फ़ोन यूजर है। 50 करोड़ से ज्यादा लोग फीचर फ़ोन इस्तेमाल करते है। यानी यह सभी डिजिटल क्रांति से बाहर है। रिलायंस ने इन्ही 50 करोड़ उपभोक्ताओं पर ही निशाना साधा है।

Although Reliance Jio launched in India in September, the company’s offering has been restricted to smartphone users as it is a 4G only network, and to make calls, a phone has to support the VoLTE technology, which is usually not found on basic phones. The company aims to change that with the Jio Phone, which comes with 4G VoLTE support. The Jio Phone will include access to apps like Jio Cinema, Jio TV, and Jio Music.
JioPhone release date and other availability details
The phone available from August 15 – for testing, in beta, and will be up for pre-booking from August 24 from MyJio app and Jio offline stores. Users who Pre-book will be able to buy phone from September, on a first come first serve basis. It will come with a couple of different data packs.

Users can either pay Rs. 153 per month, for which they will get free voice and SMS, and unlimited data (high-speed data FUP is 500 MB per day), along with Jio apps. They can also choose to pay Rs. 309 per month to get all this, plus the support for mirroring your screen on a TV, via a cable that can even be plugged into CRT TVs. After three years, you can return the phone, and get a full refund on the deposit. Aside from that, the company will also have two sachet packs, at Rs. 24 for two days, or Rs. 54 per week, for users who don’t want to commit to Rs. 153 as an upfront payment.
JioPhone features and specifications
The JioPhone was introduced by Akash and Isha Ambani, revealing the phone’s support voice commands, along with standard feature phone functionality. Isha Ambani said that the phone looks familiar by design, to ensure that it is easy to use. The phone comes with a number of apps and browser installed aside from Jio’s offerings too.

The government should pay attention to this. Mathews said that the feature phone launch is a big win for Jio.

टेलीकॉम इंडस्ट्री की बॉडी सीओएआई ने जियोफोन के फ्री फ़ोन ऑफर को ‘चालक भरी मार्केटिंग’ बताया है। इसका कहना है की इस ऑफर का मकसद लाइसेंस फीस और दूसरी सरकारी लेवि से बचना है। एसोसिएशन के महानिदेशक राजन एस मैथ्यूज ने कहा ‘जब ऑपरेटर हैंडसेट के साथ सर्विस की बंडलिंग करता है तो सर्विसेज पर लगने वाली 11-14 फीसदी लाइसेंस फीस हैंडसेट पर भी लगती है। कोई कंपनी सिर्फ हैंडसेट बेचे तो उसे यह अतिरिक्त फीस नहीं देनी पड़ेगी। जिओ ऑफर में कहा गया की हैंडसेट की प्रभावी कीमत शुन्य होगी, इस तरह बुंदलेड़ सर्विस होने के बाबजूद लाइसेंस फीस नहीं देनी पड़ेगी। सरकार को इस पर ध्यान देना चाहिए। मैथ्यूज ने कहा की फीचर फ़ोन की लॉन्चिंग जिओ के लिए बड़ी जीत है।
